Emotional regulation comes up a lot on Talking About Kids. That is because a growing number of experts believe that it is fundamental to a child or adolescent’s health and well-being. My guest this episode, Bethany Bilodeau – or “Dr. B” as she is known to her fans – is one of those experts. Dr. B and I discuss her insights from her book, Ease the Pain in the Classroom: A Guide to Safety and Regulation, and techniques that you can employ today to keep yourself and the kids in your life regulated and ready for success, however you define it. Biography of Bethany Bilodeau
Dr. B is a sensory expert who works as a Behaviorist. She started her professional career teaching high school biology and earth science in Guam. Dr. B designed a number of creative and low/no cost programs that allowed her students to achieve grade-level work.
Dr. B holds her Doctorate of Arts in Leadership, with her dissertation focused on behavior change. Her self-created method of Appreciative Inquiry and behavior change. She utilizes video self modeling for behavior change and has garnered an 82 percent success rate in positive behavior change.
Dr. B has extensive experience with integrating students into their schools and communities. She has visited schools throughout the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Canada; and is proficient at working with those who have endured anxiety, trauma, poly-uterine substance exposure, personality disorders, isolation, depression and dysregulation/hyperactivity.
Every two years, Dr. B identifies an area of need for her students and employs experts in the field to train her and her staff on the most progressive models available. Dr. B holds a certificate in Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Dr. B also has training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Collaborative and Proactive Solutions, Nurtured Heart Approach, Mandt Systems, Anxiety Management Techniques and Trauma Informed Services. Dr. B is a trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach, Mandt System and First Aid CPR/AED. She is also a Certified Children's Yoga Teacher and obtained her CCYT with an emphasis on making yoga and mindfulness inclusive and accessible to children of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
Dr. B is a Trainer for the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators, ACRE, and sits on the National Board. She works with employers to employ Lean practices, in which she is a green belt, to modify their policies and procedures to be understood by all employees. She has created training programs for hospitals, universities and for-profit companies.
Dr. Miraglia is the VP of GP Clinical Education at CandidPro. He is the Chief Clinical Officer at Airway Health Solutions. He is on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Physiological Medicine and Dentistry. He is a founding member and Chief Clinical Officer at Toothpillow.
